TRAILHEAD LOCATION:

From Cedar City, travel east of U-14, 18 miles to junction of State Road # 148. Follow #148 north through Cedar Breaks to junction of State Road #143. Follow #143 north towards Brian Head Ski Area. One half mile before Brian Head take FR #304 traveling west 2 miles to the junction of FR #265, follow this road approximately 2 miles to trailhead. Trailhead is at 9,650 feet.

DESCRIPTION:

The trail begins on a small open bench with spectacular view looking into Cedar Breaks and Ashdown Gorge Wilderness Area. The trail follows a dirt road approximately 400 yards before descending along an open sidehill and into a stand of mature aspen. The trail traverses the sidehill coming out into a level area near a dead lake. The trail works its way through a large opening dropping off a scrub oak sidehill, descending through the oak to a ridge spine covered with large fir trees. Trail then goes through a drainage to an old aspen pole fence, -turns southeast, and drops through an opening surrounded by large scrub oak to a pond of live water. The trail continues past several large openings and dead lakes before entering more scrub oak and juniper and a series of switchbacks. It. then drops into Lake Creek and over a small saddle, into Rattlesnake Creek and Trail #05 1. -
